Thank you for listening to the Boost Your Biology podcast. My name is Lucas Owen. I uncover the most cutting edge health information on the planet, ranging from hormones, nutrition, supplementation, fat loss, biohacking, longevity, wellness, and a whole lot more. Welcome to the Boost Your Biology podcast.

02:43

Hello, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome back to the Boost Your Biology podcast. Today I'm thrilled because we're going to be exploring a topic that I rarely talk about, but it needs a lot more attention. And that is specifically around skin health, general radiance, and overall biohacking optimization. So joining me on the show, we have Rachel Varga. Rachel, welcome to the podcast.

03:10

Thanks for having me, Lucas. Great to connect with you and excited for the content we're going to be sharing today. Definitely, definitely. So, Rachel, for my audience, I mean, they love to get to know the guests in greater detail. Did you want to maybe share a little bit about how you got into the self-optimization biohacking space?

03:33

All right, well, here's my story. Grew up on a small island, Vancouver Island, very protected my whole life, have been around health and wellness my whole life from a young age, started hitting the gym when I was about 14, dialed in with my nutrition and all of that.

03:49

and became a nurse. Then after that, I wasn't quite done with schooling, so I considered becoming a physician myself. So I have my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, as well as my med school prerequisites, so Gen Chem, Organic Chem, Bio Chem, and quickly realized that I'm actually very drawn to aesthetics and rejuvenation and anti-aging and longevity and optimization. And

04:13

So in about 2017, I began actually teaching other doctors and nurses rejuvenation strategies, started publishing medical journal articles on eye rejuvenation and jawline rejuvenation, and started biohacking around that time too. One of my colleagues, you probably know him, Dave Asprey, I got his face ready for superhuman.

04:37

And I was on the train of health and wellness, eating right and exercising. But once I actually started to follow him, then I got into this whole concept of biohacking and testing instead of guessing and started with air purification, water purification, cold plunging, did a lot of that for nervous system regulation. And then in about 2019, I was actually back ended or rear ended really badly because

05:05

So at that point, I had some pretty bad whiplash and headaches and things like that. So I just really leaned into biohacking to actually reduce inflammation on all fronts.

05:18

And what I started to notice as an aesthetic nurse, so I'm what you would call a double board certified aesthetic nurse specialist. And my focus has been in oculoplastic surgery and the eyes are the first area of the face to show signs of aging. So basically, since I started in the industry in 2011, I've had access to everything from skincare to lasers to other non-surgical interventions, to

05:42

And when I started to introduce biohacking, reducing inflammation, increasing my intake of antioxidants,

05:50

I started to notice my skin was better. I wouldn't burn in 10 minutes, even up in the North here in Canada. And my body composition was improving. I wasn't in as much pain anymore after the car crash. And I actually was able to utilize less rejuvenation in the clinic, which is kind of interesting coming from someone who's made a career of fixing people's faces. Now I kind of fix their feminine energy actually, which is kind of funny.

06:16

So biohacking really has a special place in my life with the way that I look, with the way that I feel. I'm happy to share some of my research that I've published too on there. Fantastic. Such an in-depth and diverse background there, Rach. So what I would love to sort of explore with you is around, I guess we can start out with general skincare for men. Because I've got a lot of men listening to this podcast.

06:43

the common mistakes that you see men making when it comes to their general skin health. Using the bar of soap that they use on their body on the face. I would say for both the ladies and the gents after about age 25, you do want to start using some more sophisticated products, not just, you know, the all-in-one body wash, hair soaps, things like that.

07:10

You do want to use an appropriate cleanser that's specifically for the face, especially for guys when you're working out a lot. You might have bacne. You definitely want to maybe make sure that you're using a cleanser that's a little bit better for maybe oily skin.

07:25

But it doesn't have to be complicated. But the earlier you start, the better you are going to look, especially when you hit your mid-30s, late 30s, early 40s, mid-40s. You're going to look much younger and more attractive compared to your counterparts that really didn't do anything. So here are the basics. It's really simple. Cleanse the skin in the a.m. and the p.m. So take a shower twice a day. You're also going to smell better, too.

07:53

And then moisturize the skin. So I am a huge fan of utilizing a specific eye cream and then apply moisturizer. And your moisturizer should basically be functioning as kind of like a multivitamin for the skin. It doesn't have to feel thick. It doesn't have to feel greasy. You could actually use a serum instead. I have some recommendations for a serum that is hydrating too.

08:17

And then sunscreen every single day. So I'm a huge fan of mineral sunscreens, like a 20% zinc, and I can recommend one as well. And it's the 10 minutes of sun exposure here, 10 minutes there while you're driving, going to the gym, commuting to work, things like that, that has this what we call cumulative effect on the skin.

08:38

And the first area we see signs of aging, especially in guys, is around the eyelids. So hooded upper eyelids, lower eye bags, darkness around the eyes. So you do actually want to make sure you're using that sunscreen specifically on the eyelids.

08:55

And then exfoliating a couple times a week. So not using like that apricot hull scrub that we've all probably used in like middle school and high school, but actually using something that's going to buff and polish the skin and

09:08

So sometimes guys reach out to me and they're kind of struggling with skin redness or kind of like dry patchiness or sunspots and things like that. So skincare oftentimes in just a couple of weeks can give you kind of more glassy, hydrated, smoother, healthier looking skin. So it doesn't have to be complicated, but it does need to be consistent.

09:32

There's some great tips there. In terms of skin is an indication of your internal health. When it comes to specific foods, I'm glad you mentioned increasing antioxidant intake, how that can actually act as an internal sunscreen. Do you want to explore that a little bit more?

09:53

Yeah, in a big way. Over the last couple of years, I did a number of things to boost my immune system. I'm sure a lot of your listeners did too. And I really cranked up the vitamin D, vitamin C, zinc, and NAC. And I was doing these protocols to, you know, keep myself healthy and on point. And I

10:14

When I kind of incorporated that stack, that's when I noticed a big difference to not burning as much. So when I talk about skincare and sunscreen, what I like to encourage is applying your products day in and day out on the high real estate areas. So face, neck, sides of the neck. The guys often forget to apply products on the sides and the back of their neck, but they have short hair. And you'll see this in older men. The skin just looks like quite leathery here.

10:43

Also to put a little bit on the top of the chest here, because guys over time can get kind of like a weathered look here and kind of red, and even a little bit on the top of your hands too. But for the rest of the body, it's a great idea to get that full body sun exposure for about 15-20 minutes a day, maybe not midday, but earlier in the day, get that circadian rhythm balancing too.

11:06

And what about in terms of like different, I guess, like toxins that they need to be aware of? Because, you know, our environment is abundant. You know, you've mentioned certain things there, but what should they be avoiding specifically when it comes to like toxins or phthalates or forever chemicals, things like that?

11:26

100% switch to cotton boxer briefs right now. Any of your workout gear, stop wearing plastic around your, you know, your jewels, okay?

11:36

So switch that up right now. Go to as much cotton clothing and underwear as possible, even with your bedding too. That's super key. And what you're putting on and around your body, I definitely want to encourage you all to stop purchasing products from these third party auction websites.

11:56

Because a lot of times skincare and personal care products can be counterfeit. And in fact, the counterfeit beauty and cosmetics industry, there's a Netflix show called Broken. They actually stated in that documentary that the

12:14

counterfeit beauty and cosmetics industry is actually bigger than the drug trafficking trade. So this is pretty huge. Like even for example, I've on social media once saw like a third party auction website, you know, that ice cream that's really good for like sore muscles. They compared one that was like bought from a practitioner and then bought online and they had totally different consistencies. The packaging looks the same.

12:40

So you do want to be aware of that. And you did mention phthalates. So phthalates are basically fragrance. So anytime you use a product, whether it's a shampoo, a conditioner, a hairstyling product, or something you're putting on your body, that little sneaky ingredient like fragrance is basically trade secret. It can be anything. Same thing with your food products and your supplements, that natural flavoring.

13:06

or flavoring is essentially a proprietary brand. So that's why it's good to kind of know who the people are behind the companies too, and whether or not they care about keeping phthalates out of the fragrance side of things. And so think about your cologne too, and your deodorant.

13:24

The ladies like these things because, you know, we desire to have our man smelling fantastic and not like gross BO. But if you are healthy, your BO should actually be a turn on for your lady. Just an FYI, especially after a workout.

13:40

Just a little spicy tip there. But you do want to watch your personal care products. So switching to cleaner products, happy to make some suggestions and recommendations. But that's usually where the toxins are hidden. It's in your clothing and it's what you're putting on your body daily. Great points there. And what about in terms of hydration? Did you want to sort of talk about

14:06

practical applications like how can men best hydrate their body, not only their skin, but also internally as well. Yeah, I'm happy you asked. I actually wrote a research paper last year on nutrition and the skin for a UK journal. I published in a US journal and also a UK journal. You can look up my name, Rachel Varga on PubMed. You can find some of my research also on my website to have a research tab. I'm like this huge beauty biohacking nerd.

14:35

And for ladies, we want to be consuming about 2000 or so two liters to two and a half liters of water a day. And then for guys about three, but if you are exercising, which you should be a lot, um,

14:50

You want to crank that up a little bit. So when it comes to internal hydration, I'm a huge fan of taking your pre-workout, getting some of those key vitamins and nutrients, a little bit of that creatine, and then also your electrolytes. So sauna-ing, if you're doing saunas, which I love to do most evenings, do make sure that you are incorporating electrolytes as well. These are really important.

15:12

And when it comes to hydration, you have to drink filtered water. Even if you've got some information that the water treatment plant near you, they don't use harsh chemicals. Those pipes that carry the water are also made of PVC, which also emit phthalates and they accumulate biofilms. Never once have I seen pipes dug up from the ground to actually get cleaned out.

15:37

And if you're not filtering your water, you're literally drinking biofilms and PVC piping. So ideally, you want to do reverse osmosis for your whole home. The best water to drink would actually be distilled water or deionized where everything's pulled out. This is what we use in the chemistry labs, as you know, as a pharmacist. So that's ideal. And then, of course, you want to do some remineralizing.

16:00

And then for hydration, keep it simple. Right after you wash your face while your skin is still humid, go straight into your eye cream, your serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen. I know that sounds like a lot, but it will literally take you like 30 seconds. It doesn't have to be this long, drawn-out thing, and you don't have to feel super girly while you do it. But your skin will thank you in the next number of years and decades.

16:26

So hydration internally, I would say it's just as important as external hydration for the skin. An easy and cheap way to hydrate your skin on your body would be like coconut oil or a single source avocado oil too. Yeah. I actually recently got a reverse osmosis water filter installed into my apartment and it

16:52

like when i try to explain it to to guys as like an investment strategy like it's what for me it was like 800 800 to get it installed but you think about like you literally need water every single day so if you were to go to the the hot the health food store and you buy like filtered water in a glass like that will probably last you like three or four months and then the cost would add up so i think like just generally from like a

17:20

like a cost to benefit ratio, you know, you're seeing a huge, huge benefit there from actually just making that one-off one-time investment. And the other random thing to do is actually clean out your water tank because there's a lot of things can get that can get trapped in there too. So good drain and then clean out with some hydrogen peroxide. That's also something people forget and anything you're drinking out of. So say for example, this is what I take to the gym all the time. It's a stainless steel canister.

17:50

I don't drink out of plastic. I don't store any foods in plastic because these contain phthalates and hormone disrupting things that are going to result in hormones being off, low testosterone. These are all things that we don't want men to experience as ladies. Something else that's, I would say, trending at the moment is red light therapy.

18:18

I mean, that's really taken off you were into this years, years ago before it even became like, like super trendy and popular. So do you want to talk to my audience a little bit about how they can differ or I guess like practical applications that you've seen work well for clients or for yourself? So yeah.

18:41

Yeah, 100%. For everybody tuning in, Lucas and I have actually known each other since about 2019, and we've collaborated a couple of times. And yes, I am a huge fan of red light. And whenever people first meet with me, they say, should I be doing red light? I'd actually say, don't start with red light therapy. This is why I wrote this other research article titled Oxidative Stress Status and its Impacts on Skin Aging.

19:07

I felt like the biohacking community needed a bit of a framework of actually what to start with. So the way I thought about this was, okay, to both look and feel our best, what do we need to do? Well, first of all, we need to reduce oxidative stress and empty out this toxic bucket. That's why we take antioxidants, like with your product that you've just come out with. That's really helpful for that.

19:31

So purifying your air, water, lighting, electromagnetics, eating the foods that are right for you, testing instead of guessing and clearing things out like yeast, fungi, heavy metals, mold, parasites, pesticides. Do that stuff first and then get into some of the fancy things like red light. And yes, I do have my red light lightsaber right here. I have these throughout my house. So it's like really fun lighting in the evening, actually, in my place.

19:58

And then I also have another huge panel in my bedroom. So I also get red light when I do my sauna every night. Those are kind of a little bit more advanced, but I am a huge fan of red light to stimulate the mitochondria in the skin. And I also just, it's kind of part of my wind down.

20:16

Something that's, I guess, crucial to understand is around what happens when individuals undergo like a detox protocol. I'd imagine you've experimented with many different detox protocols over the years. It might be

20:30

you know spirulina chlorella activated charcoal sauna usage things like that do you want to sort of explain what happens i mean like the skin can often erupt like massive changes can occur in the skin so do you want to sort of explain what might be happening there yeah absolutely so in my oxidative stress paper i did a huge deep dive into parasitology actually

20:56

Because in my conversations with hundreds of the world's leading health optimization speakers on my show too, and just working with a number of providers over the years, what we really want to do first is empty that toxic bucket. Because if it's full, and then you go and detox things like parasites, which 80% of you listening now, sorry to break it to you, and they can hang out in you for about 30 years, unfortunately.

21:25

If you then go and do a detox and you get die off of these, these critters, essentially, you're going to fill up your toxic bucket. It's going to tip over and then you can experience something called Herxheimer's, which is when you get like extreme pain and fatigue and skin irritation. I've actually had this once in eye irritation. I was flat out in bed for two days because I didn't take my antioxidants leading up to that cleanse. Um,

21:53

But really, the first time I did a proper parasite cleanse was, I think, in about early 2018, 2019. And I don't know how many details I want to relay about this, but I basically had every parasite in the book.

22:11

And I was healthy, you know, doing kickboxing and jujitsu, lifting weights at the time. Did you have any obvious like gut symptoms at the time? I didn't. Looking back, I honestly felt like I had zero symptoms. And then I started to do this parasite cleanse. And I remember watching the movie Limitless. And so this is Brian Cooper. And, you know, he's basically taking a nootropic. That's a controlled substance. But we take nootropics for feeling fantastic. I have tons.

22:39

ton of nootropics in my fridge actually, performance and getting extra dialed in when I need to. But I was watching this movie and I actually in my periphery had flashing and I was about two weeks into this cleanse. And because I have a background in oculoplastics and ophthalmology, I knew what was happening. I was actually having central nervous system parasite die off and I was seeing it in my visual field.

23:06

That's crazy. Jeez. It was, it was pretty intense, but I, but I'm a nurse. Like I knew what was going on, but it was like, Oh wow. Imagine all these other people that have parasites basically in their brain and you know, they don't feel good. They have anxiety. Maybe they're depressed. They're just not having the energy that they should because their nutrients are going to these, these little guys. And I'll never forget about a,

23:34

Two months after this initial cleanse that I did, I didn't know how good I could feel. My skin was better. I wasn't breaking out as much. My nails grow like weeds, which is a little bit annoying because I play guitar.

23:47

And my hair was just coming in even more full and I've always had super thick hair, but even more so have like enough hair for three people. So what I say about detoxing is you need to purify your environment first, have antioxidants on board, and then look at doing detoxing with sauna and different protocols first.

24:09

So for great skin, I mean, you do want to be clearing out the yeast, fungi, mold, heavy metals and parasites. And if you are having…

24:17

skin issues and eruptions like eczema or psoriasis, consider what's going on in your life, who you're around, what you're doing, your level of stress, but also any environmental triggers that you may have recently been exposed to like renovations or toxic around you. Like sometimes we get forest fire smoke here. And so I had this once actually this last summer,

24:43

And so my toxic bucket got really full and I got this actually rash on my neck for the first time, but I knew I had been exposed to a lot. I'd like moved twice and all sorts of things too. So there's a lot going on in life. And then I had the skin thing for the first time, which I cleared in a week.

25:00

But your skin tends to display when your toxic bucket is full and tips over, I'd say probably about a week or two later. So the skin really is a reflection as to what's going on inside. You mentioned something really critical around specific antioxidants. Now, I know you

25:22

have actually curated and selected, I would say, one of the most potent antioxidants on the planet, C60, as part of one of your serums and skincare products. Did you want to sort of elaborate on that one? Because C60, I've had a guest on my podcast twice talk about the benefits of C60 from

25:45

It's very, very powerful antioxidant effect and the way that it has a very long half-life and its effects on the overall body.

25:54

Congratulations, first of all, on releasing that particular product. And with the formula, like were you the lead formulator or did you also get another nerdy guy like me to help formulate that? Super nerd. Actually, somebody even more nerdy than I am, which from a woman, we want to work with men and be with men who are just like a little bit better than we are. If you know, you know what I'm talking about.

26:21

And I knew I'd wanted to create my line for a couple of years now. I just didn't know with what lab and exactly how to do it. So I've done research and development over the last probably two, two and a half years on a few different formulations with some big labs, which, you know, we were talking about this earlier. And I just didn't feel like the labs could really do what I needed them to do and what would be up to my level.

26:48

up to my standards rather because I don't want to be using non-filtered just tap water in my products which actually is pretty common. I wanted to be using like six time deionized filtered water and

27:03

So I was doing a podcast with this really lovely gentleman and he was about 10 minutes away from me after I realized the recordings. I was like, we got to meet. So anyways, go over to his house. He's like this huge biohacker. Like I am like into all sorts of

27:19

a really cool energetic VBM type of stuff as well, which I'm a huge fan of like frequency technology and energy medicine for kind of getting that space, right? The in-between space, which dark matter quintessence, the fifth element actually makes up about 80% of our universe. So it's not so much like the physical nature to us that makes up most of us, actually the space between side. That's why I like energy tech and things like that. And yeah,

27:49

He said, you know, try a couple of these products that I've made with this formulator. And I looked at the expiration on it. It expired like four years ago. It's been open forever. But because it was preserved with colloidal silver, it was still fantastic. And he gave me a C60 serum. I was like, you know what? I'm going to put this on my skin.

28:14

And that's what I have on my skin now. It's just fantastic. So I met this super nerdy researcher, like total recluse kind of guy like these, the super nerdy guys you're never going to see on podcasts, right? They don't really they don't they lack the social skills, but they make up for it in their scientific chemistry genius way.

28:35

Anyways, I totally hit it off with this formulator and he could do what I wanted with filtering the water appropriately, doing ionized silver, colloidal silver, and sourcing really high quality C60 hyaluronic acid that's also going to be absorbed in the dermis, not just topically and, you know, the rest is history.

28:56

So I elected to not work with just like a huge monster lab because I really wanted to have the control to be able to utilize strictly non-GMO ingredients as well, like single source ingredients too. So really pumped about this one, no pun intended. I designed the label myself. It's minimal packaging also wanted to save cost and waste.

29:20

So the Carbon 60 serum that I have is pretty fantastic. Obviously, I can't make any claims or anything like that for a couple of different reasons. But Carbon 60 is great to take internally, but I also love it on the skin too. And there's a lot of key…

29:39

pretty, pretty profound antioxidant benefits that range from all sorts of things, including even getting up in the middle of the night to urinate for guys. It's like really obscure, like some of the things that you can actually notice, and it's going to be bio individualistic for everybody. But

29:59

But I'm a huge fan of basically protein, collagen, antioxidants, omegas, and adaptogens, and key electrolytes and minerals.

30:09

So, you know, consume your antioxidants internally and topically. So this is a good way to do it topically too. To feed and nourish the skin, right? When you're putting things on the skin, it's not just to make your skin feel good, but we actually want to be feeding it and promoting something called skin health. That's what's actually going to result in looking better for longer. One ingredient that I've come across quite extensively is hyaluronic acid.

30:37

That one there in particular keeps on showing up with like a great amount of evidence supporting its use and its unique effects in the human body. Did you want to sort of explore that particular ingredient? I mean, the body produces hyaluronic acid naturally, right? We produce it every single day. And I believe it has a remarkable effect of like holding quite a lot of water or hydrating the cell.

31:07

Yeah, so hyaluronic acid has what's called a hydrophilic property. So hydrophobic means it doesn't want water, right? So we have our phospholipid bilayer in our skin cells. So what's cool about hyaluronic acid is we can actually apply it on the skin and it draws moisture from the air to actually stay on the skin, which is really cool.

31:28

Now the problem with most hyaluronic acid molecules is they're too big to actually get through those cellular junctions to be absorbed in the dermis. So they just sit on top of the skin. So actually the hyaluronic acid molecular size that I use is able to be absorbed transdermally. So you're getting the absorption from the top, but it's also being able to pull it a little bit deeper.

31:51

hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, peptides has been in medical grade skincare since I started in the industry in 2011. I would say a couple of years ago, we started to hear about copper peptide and peptides in skincare, maybe three, four years ago. And when I heard this, I sort of just like rolled my eyes a

32:13

And, yeah, I'm also a huge fan of copper peptide. I have some great recommendations, too, that are super clean, that have hyaluronic acid and lactic acid in the formulation, too. So I sell my products, but I also sell the other products that I've sourced since 2011. I work with like 18 different brands. It's like, what's the best in one easy place? So that's kind of what I do. And what's cool about…

32:38

really good skincare is you can also utilize it with, say, for example, at home dermal rolling, which is really great for the guys because it doesn't hurt. It doesn't make your skin red. And it's just like a great way to stimulate that collagen and elastin. It's been shown to be helpful for things like acne scarring. You don't have to go to an into a clinic for it too. You can actually just easily do it in the comfort of your own home two to five times a week. However,

33:06

However, I learned about dermal rolling from one of the OGs, Dr. Lance Sutterfield and his research assistant here on Vancouver Island. He basically wrote the Bible on dermal rolling. And I'm saying this because I've seen some of the biggest influencers in the biohacking space talk about dermal rolling and then showing them doing dermal rolling online. And I just like fall over because of the technique.

33:30

So, you know, you could be doing something quote unquote good, but it comes down to the right technique, using the right roller and using the right products with it too. With that technique that you see doing wrong, is it they're doing it too fast or the wrong like motion? What's wrong?

33:50

All of the above, but it's one of the most cost effective time effective things you do actually have mine here because I did a podcast yesterday, just talking about like frequently asked questions. So, a lot of times you can find cheap rollers that are like 10 to 20 bucks, and they'll say on the package like 10 to 20 use kind of thing. I work with

34:12

Rollers that are good for about two years and that have been manufactured for like since the 90s because a lot of the rollers you'll find are actually made in the Orient and the needles are like a metal alloy so some not good metals in there and up close they're not actually needles they're blades and they can be prone to rusting.

34:36

And all sorts of things. I've even seen like a little needle, even locally here. I didn't see it, but I heard about it actually getting embedded in somebody's skin. So the quality of the roller, the right technique and using the right products to prep the skin ahead of time and then apply afterwards is super key. That's sort of like a bit of a longer conversation, but I'm a huge fan of it. And I know that my male clients love to do it too. Yeah.

35:02

Switching gears, Rach, let's get into the polarity between the yin and the yang. You've tried to pull that out of me yesterday on your podcast, which we got into. Did you want to maybe mention, specifically when it comes to male-female relationships, that masculine-to-feminine dynamic that creates this beautiful, symbiotic relationship?

35:32

Yeah, well, one of the things that we exchange when we're in partnership, when we're making out or making love, cuddling and all that fun stuff is we're exchanging our microbes. We are basically merging our, you know, oral microbiome and beyond as well, which, you know, could have some benefits for say our immune gene and things like that too. Yeah.

35:58

But the other thing is when the masculine and feminine come together, it's better than any drug. Like when you actually experience this, when the man is in his masculine, he's got high T, he's got that muscle up, he's just kicking butt and taking names in life. He's a leader, highly thinking, analytical, you know,

36:20

80% is in his masculine and then 20% can kind of soften a little bit when he's around his woman. And then for the woman to be in the 80% creative and in flow and nurturing and bringing the peace.

36:35

And about 20% in the masculine say, I'm a CEO, right? I do a lot of things. I do like, I have like 13 different streams of income. But the way that I go about my life as a CEO is very different than the way that you do. And I'm very conscious of that. But when the masculine and feminine come together, there's this just beautiful exchange. So when we're looking at this, say from a body composition perspective, right?

37:05

I started to do some weightlifting and I was working out with a couple of bodybuilders. Some of them were on gear and stuff like that.

37:12

I was like, gosh, I'm getting some gains pretty quick here because my main goal with lifting weights was to put muscle on, right? I'm in my late thirties and putting muscle on right now is one of the key things for me for longevity. And also, you know, my body's super on point right now too. There's that, but it's kind of like lift or be lifted. I was like, wow, I'm getting some gains pretty quick. So I actually reached out to one of my coaches and

37:39

He's actually a masculinity coach because I like I love learning about things from the masculine perspective. I was like, I'm getting gains really quickly. It's what's going on here. He's like, it's because you're relaxed. It's because you're on the masculine and your cortisol is lowered. And he shared that oftentimes female bodybuilders actually get better results when they're weight training because their cortisol is lowered.

38:06

So it's really interesting if you are in a partnership and you're a couple and you're working out with your partner and then you're kind of cuddling, something to be said for actually getting more gains from that. But it's also just the exchange of what the masculine and feminine provide. And you're going to be more able to be dialed in to sharing that pure energy in a beautiful, interdependent way.

38:34

the more pure you are with your body, mind, spirit, energy, from a toxin perspective, having more balanced hormones. But we really do need each other, right? And you mentioned, I guess, a really crucial point there, Rach, is like women can tell when a man has high testosterone versus like,

38:56

I mean, this is something that I think also their pheromones, like the male pheromones. Smart women who are like, who do I want to meet with? So that aspect there, I mean, there's this huge, huge desire, I guess, for like, for all the single men that are listening to this, like definitely focus on getting that testosterone up, not only for body composition, they're going to look better. They're going to feel better. They're going to perform better. Like they'll just be,

39:25

more likely to attract a mate, basically. A hottie. Yeah, a life partner, a hottie, you know? It's so true. So for myself, you know, I was in a long-term relationship for a really long time and then took some time off, really worked on myself on a ton of different levels so that I could be at 10 for my future 10. And one of the things that…

39:55

became really obvious to me was because I am feminine, I need to be, I desire to have this really beautiful masculine man find me. And in this process of dating and things like that, I had a lot of men say to me, like, it's just like your aura. There's just, it just feels like calm and at peace around you. I heard that a lot. So I was, you know, on the way kind of selecting who is going to be the best fit for me being very selective. And,

40:24

I got really good at discerning who was like a fake masculine. Like they were talking the top, like, oh yeah, we didn't provide. But then I would look at them and you know, they were soft more ways than one. And they also had a little bit of a gut. They didn't have a lot of muscle to them, but it was also the way that they moved.

40:47

So for men to be confident, so I teach confidence and femininity to women in my membership. It's all about both looking and feeling great. But you know, my initial storefront is using great products and rejuvenation, but there's so much more to being attractive, which comes down to how you behave in any situation, right?

41:10

So oftentimes guys with low T and who lack confidence, they're very jittery with their movements. They don't have smooth movements when they're doing say dynamic exercises or walking. Their shoulders are kind of hunched forward. Their chin is down. When they're looking at their phone, they're like, you know, Quasimodo. And just with their speech, it's kind of erratic. And all of these things actually show trauma, right?

41:37

but they also show dysregulated nervous system. There is no way that I would want to partner up with a guy who had a dysregulated nervous system because if it should ever hit the fan, he's going to be able to lead and protect and provide, right? So these are just really subtle cues that I was kind of looking for. Be like, okay, steer clear from that one. And I did that for a while.

42:01

And to kind of protect myself, you know, we go through life women as women very differently than guys do. We're a little bit more like vulnerable, although I am part ninja. So you wouldn't want to cross me in a dark alley. I can confidently say that, but it's like women have to be aware of who, which men have the traits that could potentially take advantage of us and not be a good partner or

42:28

and also to be very aware of what are those traits we want to look for. And from a biological perspective, as a feminine woman, we desire to have a very masculine man find us, okay? And this is where having your testosterone worked and elevated is really important. You're not going to get a very feminine woman if you got low T.

42:58

I might also add in just in that regard there, men that have high testosterone in general, I feel like they have a better ability at becoming more disciplined and they're also more courageous and they can also lead and they're pioneering something. They're also…

43:18

building something, they're contributing to society. And that by itself, show signs to women that, oh, like this guy is going to lead he's he's making changes to the world. And he's got his head screwed on right, basically. Like he's not wasting time. He's highly productive. I mean, these are the common traits that you would be sort of seeking, right? I love where this conversation is going.

43:45

Yes, for mate selection, I'm very aware of like the red pill community, the hypergamy community and all these things. I find these things very interesting. But at the end of the day, it is part of our biology. So when men exhibit really good decision making skills and they're really good in stressful situations, say, for example, there's an accident of some sort or just something that

44:11

out of the norm happens. And then there's this response. So people are typically going to have one of two responses. And this is all actually driven by our hormones and nervous system training, essentially.

44:24

That's why cold exposure is so fantastic. So I'll get in a cold plunge and my nervous system will be regulated in about three seconds. I've actually been to biohacking events and gone on the cold plunge because I have this on my Instagram. And I could hear the owner's wife say, oh my gosh, is this thing even on? It was really funny. So I used to do a lot of cold plunging, but that was a little too masculine. So now I do a lot of heat. So again, that yin and the yang, so I balance that out.

44:52

But training yourself to be in uncomfortable situations obviously is going to trigger something called hormesis, which is really good for autophagy and all sorts of things. But it's also going to train you so that when something happens, you're not going to be this wimp. You're going to be like, okay, I'm not going to draw from adrenaline and peak cortisol. And then you get the crash from that. You're going to be more likely to dial into your noradrenaline.

45:20

hormone response, which is very much this eyes on the target type of response. So if something happens, decisions need to be made quickly.

45:31

It's not going to be from an erratic place. It's going to be from a cool, calm, collected eyes on the target place, which is very attractive. So that for us as women, we can sit back and fully appreciate and trust that, you know, he's got this. Yeah, it's a great point there. I guess like the influence of testosterone and also some of the other like

45:58

androgenic hormones like DHT I sort of try and explore this with guys and I try and educate them that like DHT and like testosterone and DHEA and pregnenolone and all these different hormones even cortisol and prolactin like

46:15

they're all working together like in unison and they're also like the ratios of the different hormones like testosterone to estrogen like when guys carry too much body fat and that drives up their estrogen um that these different dynamics and the the ratios of these different hormones can really dramatically affect their like you said before decision making so a guy that's very hesitant

46:41

and just can't make a damn decision and just will constantly like ruminate and think about it and overthink it and all that sort of stuff like typically they're the ones that have the low testosterone or low dht they don't back themselves whereas a guy that has high testosterone generally speaking will just like back himself in in tricky situations he has that self-confidence that self-efficacy

47:07

And that can be, you can really tell by looking at guys in their behavior. And you also mentioned around like body language. That's a massive one. Guys that have high T take up a lot of space. Like they literally, their body language is different. They take up a lot of space. They're confident, like their chest is up, they're open. So it's definitely, yeah, you've made some really critical points there.

47:35

Yeah, I've really enjoyed studying how to actually move as a beautiful feminine radio woman. I've done some wand modeling in my day, some, you know, runway stuff. So I know how to carry myself at that model level.

47:49

runway type of aesthetic. And if you think about it, that's kind of like the ideal as a woman. So love studying that. And also I'm on camera and in pictures, so I got to look, you know, half decent. But when it comes to guys, it's, it's quite opposite actually. But here's the thing for women when they don't feel safe when they're in their masculine, because the guy is to mention they're a feminine and

48:15

What they'll do with their body language is really interesting. Their shoulders will come up and they'll hunch forward. It's actually because they're wanting to protect themselves. They're wanting to protect their heart. So if you see a woman and she's charging through life, especially say walking around downtown, and she has this like really kind of like tough look to her.

48:35

And I, you know, I've experienced the contrast to this too. A number of years ago, I look at like, look at pictures and videos of myself when I would do four by four on the island. A huge lumberjack jacket with black beanie. You know, there would be some white characters in the bush. I don't really do that anymore so much. But women do this to actually protect themselves. And guys, when they have high testosterone, they do take up space. Their shoulders are open, number one, they got space.

49:04

great shoulders and biceps and their back is like, yeah, look how strong and tough I am. Look at my muscles. I work really hard for these. I hope you notice them. But yes, taking up space is definitely a part of the masculine movements, being very much strong and intentional with everything from every step to where they place their hands. Are they holding their phone?

49:30

Are they kind of like looking at their phone as like a security blanket? By the way, guys,

49:35

If you keep your phone on you, keep your phone in a Faraday pouch so that you're not blasting the family jewels with electromagnetic frequency radiation, which I would go so far as to say, yes, we know about canola oils and toxic seed oils as being just highly inflammatory. But I would also go so far as to say that EMFs are kind of like the smoking of regeneration. So if I have my phone…

50:01

in my jacket pocket or in my handbag, it's in a Faraday pouch. So nobody can call me either, which is great. That's a great point. I mean, that sort of links in with what you said earlier, Rach, around like wearing plastic or like polyester underwear is like a no-go zone for men because that's like,

50:20

creating electrostatic charge that renders like lowers fertility um then you mentioned there around like the emf exposure from the phone literally just being next to the testes can like cause damage to the testes and then if you stack another level on top of that it's like when men keep their testes too hot they're overheating their testes that can also lead to a decrease in testosterone i think it's uh i think it's important to mention here that

50:49

Like both men and women are being under attack in so many different ways that it takes a guy to be proactive and like actually take note on these different biohacks and actually implement them into their lifestyle because if you're just like the average guy walking around in society like

51:11

there's no way you can have high testosterone if you just follow what the average guy does and the what the average guy eats and you know that sort of stuff well i'd go so far as to say that you know those who tune into your show here lucas and those who tune into my show as well which you were just on you know we're kind of a little bit more like the one percent right we're biohackers we focus on how we're feeling our bodies

51:37

We clean up our environment. We're super dialed in, right? Every aspect, body, mind, spirit, energy, air, water, lighting, electromagnetics, eating the right food and detoxing. So that being said,

51:52

I also want to add smartwatches into the mix because if anything on your body is emitting Bluetooth, it's actually messing with blood flow. And if you desire to have your brain operate better, have better muscle recovery, and also perform sexually, you need good blood flow. I know you're a huge fan of talking about nitric oxide and things like that too for vascular health.

52:16

But when we're on our phone for five minutes, our red blood cells actually start to stick together. You can see this under live blood cell analysis under the microscope. And then we get these chains called Rouleau. I talk about this in my oxidative stress status paper. And then we get clotting factors. So all these people that have like fatigue and like brain fog, I'm super curious how much of that is actually…

52:41

related to the body's electromagnetics being off and the body being too positive. This is why we want to get outside and contact the earth like wet soil or wet sand. So we get more of the earth's negative ions or I love to hang out on my PEMF mat too. I find that that makes me feel really great too because we want good blood flow and we can actually see this in speckle contrast photography of the skin.

53:08

of how EMFs actually impact blood flow to the skin, which is the largest organ. So if you want to be your most attractive state, you just have to be healthier. I mean, that's what it comes down to. You don't have to be the most model-ass

53:25

dude or lady it's the health component I would say is one of the key things that is going to signal to people around you that you have better biology and that's what you're all about it's like how can we dial in our biology and when you do you're going to be more attractive so dating as a biohacker is

53:46

That's been very interesting. It kind of makes you even more picky and selective, especially when you take such good care of yourself. You really, you really need to have that in a partner. Yeah. No, you made a, made a great, great point there, Rach. I mean, that's one of the reasons why I even named this podcast boost your biology. It's because if you boost your biology, you,

54:12

you're not only going to support testosterone, but you're also going to support like your general, like the way that you show up to the world, the way that people perceive you. I mean, people are very judgmental. Like within the first two seconds, they'll look at your appearance and they'll see whether or not, you know, whether you're in shape, whether you take care of yourself, whether you respect your body. Because if you don't respect your body, there's no way you can

54:38

you know, sort of respect your output and your presence in the world. So I think you've made some, you know, phenomenal points there, Rach, around that polarity. And I think a lot of guys will probably gravitate towards, you know, what you're saying in regards to like the sort of qualities and the traits that men are seeking. So if they want to actually check out, number one, your skincare products, where can they find that?

55:07

Absolutely. Over at the school of radiance.com use promo code Lucas 15 for 15% off of a one-on-one session with me. I recommend this for the guys. I've worked with some pretty interesting, um, very top performing men over the years across the globe. And this is your great time for us to connect and sit down together. You can share what your skin rules are, what you say noticed shift over the last couple of years, um,

55:36

And then I'll make specific recommendations for you of what to do at home and in the clinic. And I really feel for guys because guys never learn this stuff. They never really have somebody say, hey, this is how you use your skincare. You know, this is what I could suggest from like someone who really knows what they're doing.

55:53

And so that's Lucas 15. That will get you 15% off of your order, which I do recommend doing a one-on-one actually with me. And you can book one-on-one at the school of radiance.com.

56:06

And the other thing I want to mention are the two key areas that we look at first when determining someone's level of beauty or attractiveness, because I'm all about beauty, right? Beauty and biohacking and all that good stuff, feeling and looking your best, are the teeth. So if you got bad breath, if you're not going to the dentist as often as you should, and

56:28

And you got bad teeth, you got to do something about that because the oral microbiome is just such a key indication of your overall health and wellness and how well you care for yourself. And the other thing is eyes. So if you have difficulty with eye contact,

56:43

This can actually, for certain people, indicate whether or not you're being truthful or you're lying or where you're pulling information from based on NLP. And also eye contact can give a lot of insights into how regulated your nervous system is and how present you are.

57:01

But also the skin around the eyes, so hooded upper eyelids, lower eye bags, darkness around the eyes, like all of these actually indicate nervous system and oxidative stress status too. So eyes and teeth, statistically speaking, are the two areas that we look at first to determine someone's level of attractiveness. Yeah, no, that's great. That's great.

57:24

Well, Rachel, thank you so much for making an appearance on the podcast. It was an absolute pleasure. You're always a wealth of knowledge. And I didn't realize just how much you knew around not only skin health, but I guess like the whole encompassing picture of just general biohacking, which was fantastic. I think a lot of listeners will have gained a lot from

57:48

today's podcast so if they want to connect with you as well you have an instagram just let them let them know where you're you're found on instagram yeah at rachel varga official is my ig i post some pretty like maybe sometimes controversial but inspirational things you know we're all here to be the one percent right be our best versions of ourselves and it takes a certain amount of effort a couple areas so my stories are kind of inspirational they're a great way to connect and

58:17

And then, of course, the School of Radiance podcast. And I have a number of great speakers. I've had that show for years now. And that's a really great, positive place to be. And I do have a number of male listeners on my show, too. So don't worry. I don't forget about you gents out there to also both look and feel your best. Awesome.
